Oculus Rift Headset isn't working--nothing on the viewer--just a yellow light. I'm not a tech person, but I am trying to fix my 14 year old son's VR thing. Can anyone offer some troubleshooting tips? He hasn't used it in several months and when we went to turn it on, we can't get the headset to work.

Fruit Ninja, for example, shows on the monitor but not in the headset. I've done all of the updates, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Showing 1 - 1 of 1 comments. One potential solution, is just restarting the computer, you would not believe how often problems can be solved by simply turning the system off, and back on again.

Another thing to check is whether or not the HDMI cord is plugged into the graphics card, it has to be plugged into the graphics card, no other HDMI ports will work very well with something like the Oculus Rift otherwise, there are a few suggestions I have that should work. First, make sure your graphics card's drivers are up to date. Updating the drivers for the graphics card is pretty simple though, and doesn't take too terribly long, but different graphics card manufacturers have different drivers, so the best way to get the up to date drivers differs as well, but in most, if not all cases, the manufacturer will release the updates themselves, third party drivers shouldn't be trusted and might download viruses onto the computer so go to the website of the card manufacturer to find the driver updates.

In my case, I have an AMD card, and they have made an app to help with various different things regarding the graphics card, I can download driver updates from that app, so if you find that your manufacturer has one of these apps, it might be worth your while to download it if you don't already have it.

Once in the app, go to the devices tab and if it doesn't pop up a message at the top of the window, go to "configure rift", and then to "full setup" and follow the instructions it gives you. Third, if you have done all that has been listed above, and it still doesn't work, restart the computer again, it is possible the problem has been solved by doing the steps above, but without a restart, the changes cannot be implemented, this can also be a problem between the first and second step and it has the same solution Finally, if it still doesn't work, there is something else wrong with it.

Unfortunately if this is the case, I don't know the solution, but a good place to look for it is Oculus's website, they have a support page that can likely provide you with a solution. Best of luck to you!Today I want to write a short post about a rather common issue that I read about Oculus Rift devices and that I had myself in the past.

What should we do? It has happened to me as well. I wrote this post trying to help all of you that are having the same problem I had so that you can fix it faster than me. Just look for it in your Task Manager and kill it mercilessly.

You can also try another graphics portprovided that you have an adapter. Another one solved using the DVI; Try uninstalling and re-installing all the Oculus software ; If the problem came out after some Windows or driver update, try rolling back these updates. This solved the problem for some people as well. If you have tried these all, there are is another trick that you can try. It saved my life some time ago… and it is a variant of the above point 1.

And the most annoying thing is that this problem was completely random, popping out only some days… when I spent a lot of time trying to plug the HDMI connector in and out of my graphics card. So annoying. This went on until my buddy Gianni found the solution browsing the web: it was indeed the HDMI connector, but not the one going into the PC, but the one going into the headset.

This problem may happen if the HDMI connection inside the headset becomes loose. So, what you have to do? Most of the time it is enough to push firmly the cable that enters the headset so that to push the internal connector towards its internal port.

At this moment, unplug it, check that it is ok and firmly plug it againthen re-assemble again your Rift.

But neither should demand admin access I have just been converted from using steamvr to OpenComposit only for rift for SkyrimVR, and it solved a frame rate issue I was having. It has proven itself to work for other games as well, maybe this could be worth a try while steamvr sort out it's problems - being it rift or vive, not much positive posts with 1. I would plug it in and it would turn on, but unplugging it and plugging it back in and it still doesn't work.

I rebooted my pc and it's still a black screen. The orange light is still on and usually turns off when I put it on which I think means it's detecting me, but I could sit there for a few minutes and it still doesn't turn on. I tried getting up and moving around the controllers and nothing. I know cpu isn't the most optimal for VR.

I'm usually fine even with this horrible cpu. I'm planning to upgrade it soon. Tagged: help. Sander Posts: 1. August Having the same problem Please submit a support ticket here. Warphine Posts: 4. I'm having the same problem tonight.

The sensors say they are connected in Oculus program under Devices, but they have no light on. The headset has an orange light and has sound coming from it, but the screen will not turn on. I previously tried restarting the Oculus Runtime Service and restarting my computer and nothing worked. AA-Matt Posts: 3. August edited August I'm also having issues with my headset not being detected. I tried Warphine's solution, but no dice for me. It looks like some sort of USB error.

Can you try installing the USB drivers for your motherboard? I got the latest USB drivers for my motherboard already so it's not that. Not sure what it is though, but it's happening again today. My previous fix isn't working now. Restarting the Oculus Runtime Service isn't helping and yesterday when it happened restarting my computer didn't help so I haven't tried that now. So, I got it to work again. This time I had to swap USB ports with another cable in order to finally get it wake up all the sensors and have video on the HMD again.

Unplugging it and putting it back into the same USB port wasn't doing it.

Had to change USB ports this time. The Oculus Rift S is an incredibly powerful piece of technology, and one of its major selling point is ease of connectivity. For many people, the Rift will work right out of the box. For others, however, some tiny, fiddly settings hiding away in your Windows installation may prevent it from working. We compiled a list of possible fixes that have worked for others. Hopefully, they can help you, too. Note: The Oculus Rift S is only advertised as being compatible with Windows 10, so these instructions have been written assuming you have Windows 10 as your operating system.

If you do not, your first step should be upgrading. Some users have been reporting problems with the Oculus App installing in the first place, and, most of the time, turning off Windows Defender will fix the problem. To do this, go to Windows Defender settings in the control panel you can also just type Windows Defender Settings in the search bar. That should bring you to the Windows Security menu. To fix this, just turn Windows Firewall off.

Once again, this is a simple fix. There, you can turn off Windows Defender Firewall on both private and public networks, though you might want to turn it on again after you are done installing, just in case. When performing your first install, be sure to disable your antivirus software to make sure it goes well.

One of the biggest problems that the Rift S has is with out of date drivers. An outdated USB 3. Before attempting to connect your headset, install the latest Windows updates, your latest graphics card drivers, just make sure everything is up to date. This is an easy one to overlook. Windows 10 allows you to keep apps from accessing your cameras in its privacy settings, and some computers come with cameras blocked by default.

The Rift S is strangely finicky about the port you use. Some graphics cards only allow the Rift S to work when plugged into the primary DisplayPort. If none of the USB 3. If your graphics card comes with a USB 3.
